MF 35 gas knocking/rattling

I have a 63' MF 35 gas tractor and it has now a loud
rattling in front of motor sounds like in the timing
gear cover. It is not the water pump or alternator.
What could be making this rattling in the front of
motor?? Thanks

Could be the governor, us a extra long screw driver placed on the cover and held against ear. BE EXTRA CAREFUL. Placing in different areas you may isolate the noise.

I got lucky on my TO35, it had a noise in the front of the engine area,
I was ready to take it to a repairman prepaired for a rebuild,

Had an old farmer friend come over and listen to it, turned motor off and he when over it like a dr giving you a physical touching moving everything looking for movement,

Finally he said is that crankshaft pulley bolt suspose to be that far out, that was it , the bolt had backed out and the noise was the loose pulley

He helped me tighten it up noise was gone that was last year, no further problems,

I had looked at it a number of times had another friend who is a very good mechanic look at it, but we all missed the obvious,
