Massey MF135 w IPTO transmission shear coupler replacement

We have the famous 'tractor don't move anymore' issue after hearing a popping internal transmission noise while rototilling. I have a new transmission shear coupler and cotter pin in hand ready to proceed with replacement after reading many of the same issues/fixes here especially by the Massey Guru DavidP. My question is this:

Do I remove the Independent PTO lever first from the shaft and then the side plate to approach this fix? (leaving any IPTO internals unaffected) or Do I remove the IPTO side plate with the lever attached and does this come out smoothly without any internal interference? My fear is messing up the IPTO. I don't know how the IPTO shaft is internally connected from the side plate. I've looked at different drawings until my eyes are blurry...

The 8 gallons of transmission fluid has been drained and we're waiting to proceed :)

Tractor not moving has nothing to do with IPTO. The lift cover has to come off to replace shear coupling.

I'll post pictures in the AM if no one beats me to it.

This sent via phone, no pics on it

As said, you need to remove the heavy top cover...but first you must remove the dipstick side cover then reach in and remove the little roller from the linkage controls. This is just spring loaded between the legs of the lever. Also remove the transfer plate or selector valve or spool valve on the top right of the cover. If the tractor has pressure control on the quadrant then the stand pipe will not come out but on standard tractors you can pull out the pipe and replace it after refitting the lid/top cover........

Hello,
You are too kind sir!!!
It is a shame that it is necessary to remove the hydraulic cover. Proceed as has been suggested by Sam and others. When you are ready to replace the shear tube the hole that gives the least end-float should be used for the split pin. Ensure that the drive shaft and tube are fully rearwards and forwards respectively. There must NOT be any spring pressure on the split pin. Open the legs of the split pin fully. Retrieve the old pin if possible.

This picture is of my 150, but believe the 135 is the same. The shear coupling is shown well. I would suggest that you clean the two pump strainers while your in there.

As stated, REMOVE the linkage roller thru the right side cover, before removing the lift cover. DON'T remove the four nuts under the seat, as they hold the lift cylinder. Remove the lift arms to reduce weight.

Do your lift arms lower quickly after shutting down tractor, without anything on lift arms? If so, time to replace the rings in the lift cylinder while the cover is off.

Thanks Guys for all the advice. I was looking at the path of least resistance so I was hoping to go through the left side plate cover based on DavidP?s previous comment of 10-07-2015 14:16 :? 'If the tractor has IPTO you will have less room to work inside'? Disconnect any pipework if fitted and remove the cover. You will be able to see inside using a flashlight but refitment will be done more by feel that watching what you are doing.?

I can work under cramped conditions, but not impossible conditions. Now with the added difficulty of removing of the top cover, this will end up on the back burner for the next few weeks before we?re able tackle it and report back the results. Thanks again for the help.
