Hi I have a 1958 fe 35 23c diesel with bucket loader
When I start her up the tachometer works then after i drive about 5 min or so it stops working
Any ideas ???

might try taking off the tachometer cable, pull the flexible cable out, coat it good with dry graphite.

I did this to the tachometer cable on my 1957 TO35, I also took the tachometer off and turn it upside down and poured powdered graphite in it. you might try just spraying graphite up into the tachometer with out taking it off.

I thought it was worth a try, that was years ago and the tachometer still works.

also, if the tachometer is driven off the rear of the generator as mine is, you may need to take that drive gear box off and be sure its properly lubed.

its worth a shot,

you know they do not build stuff like they used to, mine is 59 years old and still working.

Thank you so much for your help
I'm new to tractors I think that this was changed to an alternator
But will try the graphite
I just got this tractor so I'm learning a lot

If someone has changed to an alternator, I assume the tachometer is still run off a small gear box located on the rear of the alternator,

So lube all the parts, give it a try,
Good luck,

The tacho on these works off the drive at the front of the injector pump, You probably need a new driveline if the squares are worn on the old cable.......Sam
