MF35 Clutch Sticking

Hi ive got a 35X and the clutch has become slow to disengage when I am moving and put my foot on the clutch it will keep going for 10 to 15 yards before it disengages.
Once disengaged I can select gears easily but if I release the clutch and depress it again then try to select a gear I have to crash it in to release the clutch then I can select gears easily till I release it again.
There is no clutch slip and I have adjusted the clutch PTO clutch is working fine and all fingers look good through access plate.
I did read somewhere that if the plate becomes to smooth it can cause a vacuum between the flywheel and plate which causes it no to release easily but would welcome any ideas.
Thanks

Hi,
Two possible causes are a film of oil on the plate will cause it to stick and release slowly. There may be some leakage of engine oil past the rear seal and this has contaminated the faces.
Another possibility is the plate spline is dry and slightly rusty and this is preventing the plate releasing immediately. Remove the inspection plate under the clutch housing and using a flashlight check for any film of oil on the clutch cover.

My 35x had the same problem about 15 years ago. Had it 'fixed' by local MF dealer (who shortly after gave up dealership). Tractor came back worse than it went in.

Finally decided that I had to bite the bullet and do it myself. I split the tractor and put a new clutch in. Whole job took me about 5 hours. The tractor has been great since then, only had to adjust the clutch a couple of times and never had to adjust the pto clutch again.

Thinking outside the box here,

If the spline shaft the clutch move back and forth on is dry and dragging,

Take clutch inspection plate off:
Would it be possible to have someone hold down the clutch, while you shoot some type (non oil based) lubricant up through the clutch inspection hole toward the shaft, may just take a small amount to smooth it up,

What could it hurt as it sounds like otherwise it's going to get replaced anyway if this does not work,

Note to file: your worst nightmare, using tractor and clutch does not release and you run over something and get hurt,

Hi All
Thanks for all the replies
I took the plate off today to have another look and it seems quite oily in there.
The tractor is a multipower 35x and gets used on a regular basis so I am thinking it is oil contamination rather than it sticking due to it being dry the oil appears to be more at the gearbox end from what I can see and the problem seems to get worse when the tractor warms up.
I decided to wedge the clutch down and squirt a tin of brake cleaner at the clutch and this appears to have made things a lot better abeit a temporary fix.
Ive got some hay to make when the weather allows so Im going to try and get this done and then I think it will be best to split the tractor repair the seals and see whats going on.
