Opinions on this 135 for sale

Thanks for your patience on my multiple threads over the past couple weeks. Searching for the right tractor in the right price range is very exhausting. Guy has this 135 for sale. Here is the info he has provided and picture below. A little rough looking but could be a good tractor I think. Any preliminary idea on value?

Also, I would like to find a loader to put on it. How much of a pain in the behind is this to do? Is it worth it or should I find one with loader already on it? I talked to a guy over the weekend that said he took a loader off a TO-35 and he wants $100 for it. Everything works. Could I mount this on the 135, and if so, do I need additional parts such as control valve? Or will the control valve (joystick) from the TO-35 work?

Only thing he says is wrong with tractor is the power steering fluid is low and it doesn't work. He hasn't put any fluid in it yet to try and diagnose problem.

Listing - 1969 Massey Ferguson 135 with Perkins 2.5L 3-cyl gasoline Engine. 3-Point Hitch. Rear PTO. 46 Horse Power. Power Steering. 12 Volt Electrical. Runs Good. Original hour meter works and reads 2588 hours. Sheet metal is nice and straight.

His response to my inquiry - Still have the Massey. Does not have puddles of fluid underneath it. There is some oil around on the engine. Its a 1969 and has not been redone/rebuilt anytime recently so it has what you would expect of old gaskets and some oil seepage showing on it. The Hydraulics/3 point hitch work. Coolant does not seem to leak. All tires hold air. The one thing that does not currently work on it is the power steering. Power steering fluid is low and it may be as simple as adding fluid. I was going to add fluid but need to find out what type of fluid to put into that system. Brakes work. One brake needs adjusted up to make them match better on the pedals. The light switch does not work. Switch needs replaced. Without the switch I do not know if the light bulbs are both still good or not. PTO does run. I have played with it. Tractor has a two stage clutch. Pedal completely depressed and nothing runs. Pedal half way up PTO engages but tractor does not move. Foot off pedal and PTO runs and tractor moves in whatever gear your in.

Tractor was owned by my father in law and I am selling it for the family. He passed Jan 2015 and the tractor was sitting since then. The little history I know is that it started with the military. At some point it was sold to Borough. Family purchased it from the borough. After sitting for over a year the only thing I had to do to it to get it running was replace the coil.

I'm not sure if the loader will bolt on without any problems, or not (I think it might). $100 for a FEL is dirt cheap, it maybe one of those old, narrow loaders with the manual trip type dump bucket, and or everything worn out (would need to see some pictures of it). Since the power assisted steering doesn't work, since most of them usually don't work anyways, and are not usually cheap to fix. For me $3000 would be on the high side, unless the power steering worked, or if it was a diesel. For me I wouldn't give no more than $2500 for it.

I have read somewhere online that the mounting for a FEL is the same for the 35 and 135. I am going to check the loader out. He acted as though it was a heavy loader, saying it was too big for the TO-30's that we were watching at the auction. He said it is not pretty but fully functional.

Just so I know, what are some of the power assist components that go bad and how hard is it to fix them? With a shop manual I can do just about anything if I put my mind to it. I do see that a new power steering pump goes for $175 but I don't know if that's just a simple swap. ??? What else causes the power assist to fail?

Thanks for the input.

For the Perkins the power steering pump they use is cheaper in price compared to the ones with the 4 cylinder Continental. The control valve in the steering column could have a leak, or something, or the cylinder(s) for the power steering could need some work, or replacing.

i looked at the tractor yesterday. It smoked white or blueish very badly. I have a hard time telling the color but it was light colored. I also smelled fuel in the oil. I had him at $1500 before I looked at it but decided to pass. Seems to need too much work for me to deal with. It was also pushing oil out at a couple different places. He has 3 offers highest being $1300.

On a good note I looked at the $100 loader and picking it up tomorrow. It's a Davis or MF 102. The guy wanted the tractor the loader was on so he removed it and just wants it gone. The loader is very structurally sound with the exception of the bucket needing a little work. All of the hoses are basically new. It includes the crankshaft pump and the control valve. I got a good deal on this one. Now to find a tractor for it. I think I'll be looking for a 50/135/150. I know this loader will fit the 135 but not sure about the 50/150.

The 50, and 150 have a different front axle support than what the 135 uses. If you or someone you know is a good metal fabricator the front support could be made to work. The engine on that 135 needs a rebuild so the $1300-1500 price is about right. If you could rebuild the engine yourself it would probably take around $1000 for all the parts. The very old MF, or Davis parts book for the loader has the model 99 - 101 - and 102 in the same book so the parts should be similar/same. $100 for that loader is a steal even though it needs some work.
