I have a 1962 MF-50 A3-152 Perkins diesel tractor w/vertical injectors. Serial # 533398. Yesterday I discovered eng lube oil coming from a hole in the bell housing. I assume this indicates a rear crankshaft seal failure. I've tried to determine the part number for this seal on various sites and I'm just getting confused. Additionally, with the amount of oil I'm losing I'm confident my clutch plate is soaked. If anyone has the "correct" part numbers for the seal/clutch I would certainly appreciate hearing from you.

The rear main seal is MF part number 735866M1 (it's a 2 piece seal).
If you have a single disk clutch you need MF part number 180263M91.
If you have a 2 stage clutch (live pto) you need MF part number 512355M91.
There is also input shaft seals on the transmission so might as well replace them also, but it depends on what the transmission serial number is (it should be stamped on the case, and it should be something like CQ-11343).

You can also look up parts here.

Thank you, ptfarmer. Yes, I do have a live PTO. As for #'s stamped on the transmission I have only found a casting # of F19K. The transmission is 3 sp fwd and Multi-power if that makes a difference.

Bob....

So you should need the dual clutch 512355M91. Since it is multi-power you don't have to worry about the transmission serial number. The input shaft seals in the transmission are not the easiest to change. There is 2 ring seals 512355M91, and 1 seal 192329M1 (page 170 in the online parts book).

Thanks Bob... yes... I had read that and made notes.
I've rebuilt two 4cyl Perkins marine diesels for my sailboat boat but have never tackled my tractor. An entire new experience for me.

You guys are a wealth of information. I sincerely appreciate all the help your giving me. "Not the easiest to replace"... I'm chuckling because at 70 yrs of age I find a great many things more difficult...

You got 20 more years of age on me, but I know how it feels. Now I work smarter, not harder (I used to be a heavy equipment field mechanic many years ago).

I live remotely in the Ozark Mtns on my acreage now. Between taking care of that and putting up 6 cords of standing dead hardwood for the winter months (yes, wood stove) I stay in pretty good shape. Working "smart" and situational awareness is the key..
