I split the tractor removed the 4 bolts that hold the housing on and I removed the lower cover and snap ring as described in the book as I only have partial breakdown (not a complete book)I still can't get the shaft out to replace the seal,,, also it has the double clutch system any ideas?

The four bolt PTO input retainer can be removed on the MP models, but the six speed models the complete transmission must come out. There are several parts that must come out the rear before the retainer can be removed on the six speed.

I just rechecked the MF service book, I told you wrong. The six speed retainer CAN be removed from the front. The lower PTO shaft must be removed so the gear drops down for clearance. After cover plate is off remove the snap ring, then pull the bearing retainer off the gear. After it's pulled the shaft should come out, allowing the gear to drop so the PTO input retainer will clear. I'm used to working on the MP models, been years since I've had a six speed apart!

Book shows it will pull out the front after the round retainer and bearing are removed. Shaft is pulled out, allows the gear to drop making clearance for the PTO input housing to then pull out.

Early 35 the shaft comes out the front, on later tractors, post '63? the gearbox has to come off and the shaft has to go backwards.............Sam
