Hello All,

First things first, I have used this forum many other times without actually registering to answer some questions I have had and found that the members here are very knowledgeable and helpful. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Now moving on, I currently have a 1973 MF 135 with the Perkins 3 cyl. diesel. It appears the pto clutch disc has come apart as there are several pieces in the clutch assembly when viewing the from the bottom access hole. I do not believe that adjustment will help in this situation. The main drive still appears to be working fine. I have been looking online trying to find the clutch kit or disc to replace, however the only kits that I can find are saying 11" main drive and 9" pto, however the service manual I found is saying that the clutch is a 12" main drive and 10" pto. Has anyone replaced this clutch and know what size it actually is or where I can buy the disc or the whole kit???

I was thinking that I would replace both discs or the whole kit since I will have the tractor split anyways. Thanks in advance for your help.

The pto disk will be bigger in diameter than the drive disk for the transmission. The pto disk is contained inside the pressure plate. Best thing to do is order a complete clutch kit that comes with everything. I would also suggest replacing the transmission input shaft seals, and the rear main seal on the engine. The main difference is the input splines, one is (1.625 Dia. - 25 Spline) the other is (1.750" Dia. - 10 Spline). You should split it first before ordering the clutch kit to get the one with the right splines.

PTfarmer ....other way around! The main drive disc is the large one......Look for a 165 clutch or even a 175 plate....The later 135s had the same plates as the larger tractors. I would recommend fitting the complete clutch as everything in there will be worn if the tractor has high hours......If bell-housing is dry I would be inclined to leave the seals alone ......Quite a job doing the seals in a 135 as you have to remove the complete gearbox, but if there is any signs of oil do indeed replace the seals...Sam

The MF shop manuals must have it all wrong.

You have to split the tractor anyways to replace the clutch so why not replace the seals?

Hi - regarding clutch plate size;
In the UK the 11" and 9" size clutch unit was replaced with the 12" and 10" plates in late 1970 when the 135 received an upgrade. Don't know if the same change took place in the US.

In the US the last year of the 135 was 1975, then the 235 in 1975-76, then the 245 in 1976-83.

Thanks for all the responses. I have the tractor split. Main drive is a 11 in disc and whats left of the pto appears to be a 9 in. I believe I am going to look for the complete kit as the pressure plate is showing some wear. I believe this is the correct replacement: http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Massey-Ferguson-135_Clutch-Assembly-Dual_526666M91.html with the matching main drive disc: http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Massey-Ferguson-135_Clutch-Disc-11-Inch_516068M91.html .

Bell housing is dry, so for now I am going to skip on the seals, however I will replace the throwout bearing. I am having trouble figuring out which throwout bearing is correct. After some quick measurements I am coming up with 2.20 in ID, 4.05 in OD, and 0.875 in Thick. Can someone with more knowledge point me in the right direction? The following link is where I have been searching parts: http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/c...rea=Massey-Ferguson&md=135&cat=Clutch . Is there anyway to search the original part numbers tied to a serial number? Thanks again.

The clutch on the US 135 has 2 different input shafts, its either (1.625 Dia. - 25 Spline) or (1.750" Dia. - 10 Spline). All the US 135's use the same outside diameter clutch disks (11", and 9"). There is 2 carriers for the throwout bearing so there is going to be 2 different throwout bearings (you have to measure the diameter of the carrier as shown in the parts book to get the right bearing). For the online parts lookup go here.
