398 alternator

Massey 398 isn't charging

Back of the alternator has a 3 prong connector, looking around on the web, looks like (1)
D+ and (2) B+ terminals

Want to troubleshoot before I buy an alternator

Assuming (we all know where that gets you) the D+ should have 12V+ on it to excite the
alternator...and the 2 B+ are the output to the batteries...sound right?

So if I've got the 12v, it should charge?

And the replacement alternators have that 3 terminal connector, but also have a large B+ stud...would I just cover that up and ignore it?
Thanks

Fred

I don't mess with 3 wire alternators any more, I just put on a 1 wire. Run the wire to the pos. post on the battery or the pos. starter stud.

Also if you have a Delco 10SI or 12SI you can buy a kit for your alternator for less than $30 and rebuild it yourself to a 1 wire. Easy to do. www.alternatorkits.com
