Have a low hour (600hrs) 281XE that has hot hot hot hydraulic fluid! Sometimes the pumps just screams . It see to surge on the hydraulic
although it has great oil pressure at the scv's. Occasionall the steering will just stop working also! Very scary at times. Oil has been changed.
Oil filter changed. No contaminates in open filter. Sump screen pulled and check, all clean. Suction hose and pipe checked, all good. Breather
removed and checked, just fine! This tractor has power beyond block with joy stick. Pulled relief valve but it was clean. All out of answers! Has
anyone else seen this problem?

Hello,
I'm unfamiliar with the tractor as this model is not seen here in Australia. But from previous experience, overheating in transmission and hydraulic systems is usually a result of pressure oil being forced thru a restiction of some sort.
By this I mean an open centre hydraulic circuit may be inadvertently closed off because of an operator error or a mechanical fault.
Can you tell me if the tractor has always suffered this overheating problem since it has done relatively low hours, or if the problem has just started to happen?
Has it only occurred since the front end attachment was fitted?
Have the rear hitch hydraulics been left in the fully raised or "constant pumping" position by accident?
Is there a buzzing sound coming from the rear end or external hydraulic pipes when it's first started up?
Does the engine sound like it's running with a slight "load" at all times?

Let us know your thoughts,
regards, Evan.
