Difference between a 175 and a 180

Sounds as if the engines are about the same but the 180 has bigger rubber and frame, making the 175 a much lower profile. And the 175 will probably have a 8 and 2 transmission, no Multi-Power? Any other differences?

You sit a little higher on the 180, the shifters are on the console also. The platform on the 180 isn't humped up. Other that that they are pretty close the same thing. I always thought 180 = Row Crop and 175 = Utility. I may be wrong.

I don't have a 180, but I think the PTO is geared differently. My 175 is rated at 1700 RPM for 540 RPM PTO. I always thought the 180's were rated at 2000 RPM for 540 RPM PTO. Which gave the 180 a little better pto hp from the same engine. Maybe someone else here can confirm that?

180 is a platform tractor. You sit up higher in the air. 175 and 180 both could be had with a six speed transmission with or without multi-power. Some 175's had the eight speed. Have never seen an 8 speed 180. All 180's had pressure control 3 point. 175 could be with or without pressure control. Engines are exactly the same. Rears are the same. 180's had hydrostatic steering where as 175's were the old design similar to the setup on a 65. 180's had tilting and telescoping steering wheel and 175's did not. Same dry clutch and brakes on both. Later tractors came with square axle housings and could be converted to wet brakes like the 275. Much better than the dry brakes. They are good tractors and are easy on fuel for the power they have. The 236 Perkins has good low end torque and are easy to find parts for.

Both tractors came with 1700 engine, 540 PTO. 180s were always row crop with either 30 or 38 rear rim diameter. 175s came either with standard profile, 28 inch rear rims or row crop 38 inch rims. Dealer I worked for sold both. Most had the two stage dry PTO clutch, but could be ordered with the fully independent hydraulic PTO clutch. That's what dad's 180 has.

I think 175's could have 30in rims also. Mine has 18.4-34 spin outs on it and has 1800 original hours. I bought it from the original family (farmer died).
