AD3 152 Perkins Head Gasket Installation

I am rebuilding my AD3 152 Perkins in my 1969 MF135 and I'm at the stage of installing the head gasket. The Jensales manual I bought states "lightly coat both sides of the new cylinder head gasket with an aviation grade sealing compound (non-hardening). I have the copper gasket which is the same as the one I removed before the rebuild, does this copper head gasket need a sealing compound? I have heard of a spray called CopperCoat, I also have a Permatex Anaerobic Flange sealant that I used for the oil pan gasket but I'm not sure if I should use that.
Also do I need to retorque the head after a certain number of hours running the rebuild?
Thanks, Don

Check the torque head after you run it for the first time, get the engine to operating temp then check. I would use a temporary fuel tank that holds a couple of gallons of fuel so you don't have to remove the fuel tank from the tractor again.

Put it on dry, and most definitely re-torque it when it's at 190-200 degrees F. I fill the cooling system, but leave the fan belt off so engine gets up to temp faster and evenly.

Hi Dieseltech, so you're saying that there isn't a need for a sealant as mentioned in the manual?
Thanks, Don

Put a copper head gasket on dry??

Yup, never put anything on either Continental or Perkins head gaskets for years. Even at the MF dealer I worked for. What's important is to re-torque when hot, the hardware will lose 20-30 FT-LB on most heads. Some Perkins gaskets are even marked, TOP FRONT-FIT DRY.
