I just bought a Massey Ferguson with a Perkins gas engine. Are these good engines? Also I was wondering if and how can I setup a wood splitter using the aux. hydraulics

What model?

I doubt the tractor hydraulics would have enough GPM to run a splitter. Unless you were awfully patient.

Well, you didn't before you bought it, so do some research now. I think you will find it is the most popular tractor on the planet, used on every continent, made in 4 or 5 countries for .... well, basically, with differences- almost 50 years?
The Perkins has got to be the most respected non auto diesel in history. So yeah, you lucked out, and splitting wood shouldn't be a problem at all. Now buy some manuals...

My grandfather had the same tractor but his was a diesel and didn't have the auxiliary on it but other than that it the same so I didn't need to research. I didn't realize it had the auxiliary until I went to pick it up. The guy that sold it was selling for an 87 year oldan and didn't know much about it either.

I have been using a TO20 to split wood for over 30 years.
TO 20 has less volume and pressure.
I use 4 INCH CYL on the downstroke and a small cyl for upstroke,
It won't keep 2 people busy but I work by myself so no problem.
Mine has a detent for both up and down.
