Just bought a MF-150

I just bought my first tractor. It is a 1972 Massey Ferguson MF150 with AD3-152 Perkins Diesel. It has the 8/2 trans, Diff lock, and Power Assist Steering. It is/was a one owner tractor with 2160 hours on it. It has new paint, new exhaust, 4 new tires, and a new seat. The sheet metal was
in pretty good shape for a tractor that's 44 yeas old. The only real issues are the fuel gauge does not work and the dash Light switch is broken off and there are only two fender lights that are not even wired, neither is the work light on the rear. Oh yea the battery cover down under
the gauges is missing. I had driven my father in laws 8N and enjoyed it so much ... I wanted an older tractor of my own but one that had much
more capacity. As I start repairing a few things I hope to learn as much as I can from everyone here a yesterdays tractors. I
would really like to hear from anyone with a 150. I am already working on my newbie list of questions.

My brother has a 1965 150 with the 12 speed (multi-power) he bought it used in 1975. It's been, and still is a very reliable tractor. A 150 is pretty much a 165, but with the smaller engines like the 135's had. I'd trade my 1967 135 with a Perkins AD3.152 diesel for a 150 with a Perkins AD3.152 diesel in a heartbeat.

Tom,
That is amazing. The after pic is beautiful. How long did that restoration take ??
Im printing your picture out to put in my Massey 150 folder.

I originally wanted a MF 135 diesel but I had read on yesterdays tractor site about the MF150.. 4 inches longer,
couple inches taller, more ride height, 1000 lbs more wgt, and the ability to have FEL if you wanted to... keeping in mind the power steering is really ....power assist and the FEL is limited by the pump so its a little slow.
When I ran across a MF 150 diesel 300 miles away.. I took a drive. He had the
150 and a 135 there I got to drive them both and the 150 was a better fit for me. Probably more tractor than
I need but I plan to keep it for many years.
I will try to upload a pic of my tractor..

It's too bad there wasn't digital cameras when my brother restored his, it was a real looker afterwards like Toms 150. I agree on the 150 being a better fit than 135 especially if you are tall, the 135's makes me feel cramped.

That's a nice looking 150.

Thanks Ben,
I am looking forward to getting the lights back in working order and locating a massey grill guard..etc.
and then maybe taking it out to some of the local "Tractor Days" events in our area. Oh and a exhaust
flap,..You will notice my Spegettios can in the pic up on top the exhaust stack since it was raining.
My grandfather used a tin can on his Allis Chalmers exhaust his entire life...hahahaha... so now I see why.,.. Free vs $20 cap.

Tom,
Since my lights are not hooked up and the light switch is broken off can you tell me how they are suppose to work.

Are the inside lights suppose to be Low Beam, and the Outside Lights High beam,
OR are all 4 lights the same strength / wattage.

Also, does a functioning light switch turn all 4 lights on at once OR does the switch turn on one set of lights
then with continued turn of the switch, it turns on the 2nd set of lights and the 1st set stays on also.???

Keith, As you can see, I went with clam shell fenders since I am using the 150 in an 80 acre woodlot. Didn't think the square fenders would be friendly with trees.

I rewired the whole tractor to my liking. My lights, off/ low beam & rear light/ high beam & rear light/ all lights and rear flasher.

Of course the dash lights never did work. It has some kind of transformer to supply AC voltage to gauges.

Keith, It took seven months start to finish. I'm retired and didn't have a woman (tried it twice) to complain that I was spending too much time in the garage.

Of course, the 150 doesn't look that nice now. The FIRST scratch is the worst :( It was meant to be a working tractor in our 80 acre woodlot.

Couple more pictures of process.
