M-F 275 won't go in gear

Just disked about 8 acres with the Massey Ferguson 275 and after I disconnected the disk, it would not go in gear. Tried all gears and the hi low range. I remember my JD 60 would do this once and a while and you had to run through all the gears and then it would engage. So far, that did not work on the 275. any thoughts?

Do you mean the gears locked up so they couldn't be selected, or can you select them but it just wont drive? The latter could mean that the split pin in the drive shear tube has fallen out and the shear tube has become uncoupled or slid along the shaft. Not being able to select anything would have something to do with the clutch...like plates stuck together or even the clutch adjusting clamp slipping on the shaft or the actuator lever inside shearing a bolt....?????

Remember to check the obvious - Is the range selector lever in gear?

If not, it sounds like you got serious problems.

I know some tractors have a connector in the transmission that's supposed to break before you get enough torque to damage the transmission. (Kind of like a shear pin) But I don't know if the 275 has that or not.

Sounds like the split pin has worked its way out of the shear tube ,thus letting it drift out of gear....It can be replaced thought the side inspection holes if you have hands like a pickpocket...the front part of the shaft will have to be meshed into the high/low coupler and then the shear tube slid into place and the split pin put into the appropriate hole....The holes are all slightly staggered and you have to pick the one that holds the shaft forwards best.. The shear tube can just be seen in my photo of a 65 It is the driveline connector with the groove machined to allow it to snap to protect the rear axle. The head of hhe split cotter pin can just be seen too.........Sam
