Ok, i have all the bolts out of the top cover on the transmission, i also have all the hydraulic lines disconnected.
Trying to remove the top cover to get the charge pump out for replacement. All bolts out of the cover, how much force
should I use and where to get the cover off? It is not moving yet and I am afraid to break something. Any and all
ideas how to get it off would be appreciated. Thanks, Leo

Ok, got the cover off, with the help of a rachet strap and a bar. It was stuck down good. Now, on to trouble shooting, should I be able to turn the gear that drives the pump freely or not? I will check again, but it appears that trying to turn the gears it turns a little then becomes engaged, which makes me believe the charge pump is bad. Can the charge pump be tested?

Charging pump is tested on the tractor with the rest of the hydraulic system, using several gauges and a flow meter. Early tractors used a gear charge pump while later used the gerotor type pump. If pump is not working there's always a chance the front PTO flywheel coupler splines are bad, or the coupler at the other end can fail too located at the trans-diff split joint. Toss a coin where to split the tractor first when the couplers die, as there's no way to check each separately.

Thanks, if it requires splitting the tractor, I will unhook my snowblower and sell the tractor. I do not have the ability to split it, and the expense is simply not worth it.
unfortunate as I did like the tractor.
