thanks for the picture. thats the way i set it but it fills like its hitting the ribbits on the clutch disk or something when i push the petal all the way down.

If it only hits with the pedal all the way down the clutch isn't adjusted right. Was a new clutch put in it (it could have been adjusted wrong before it was put back together), or is it an old clutch, and it didn't do that until the free play in the pedal adjusted?

its the old clutch I just adjusted the pedal and the throwout shaft like it said in my I@t manuel, thats when it started it.

Sounds like the three adjustment bolts that contact the throw-out bearing wasn't adjusted properly, and those adjustment bolts are just hitting the pto clutch disk. To engage the pto you shouldn't have to push the clutch pedal all the way down to the floor board. Did you recently buy the tractor, or have you had it a very long time?

Ive had the tractor about two years and its always been hard to put the pto in gear. a few months ago I adjusted the clutch pedal like I said. It didnt help anything but thats when it started tipping the ribits or something. last week I found out about the three bolts to adjust the pto. after adjusting the clearance the pto gos in gear great. you dont have to push the petal all the way down to put the pto in gear but its close and if you do it starts hitting something.

The splines on clutch disks are riveted to the disk, what you are feeling are the back side of the 3 adjusting bolts on the clutch that run against the throw-out bearing hitting the rivets on pto clutch disk.

how do i fix it. does it need a new clutch?

I usually just put a little more free play in the pedal, the pedal really shouldn't have to be pushed that far. The 3/4" free play is a minimum to make sure the clutch isn't running with any continual pressure on it. When I'm running my tractor, and have to use the pto I never push the pedal all the way down, I just get a feel for how far I need to push on the pedal down (just enough to when the pto in engaged you have to release the clutch a little for the pto to start running). My opinion is you shouldn't need to over work the springs in the clutch by depressing the clutch all the way in every time.
