How Fast will a 231 Massey go?

Does anyone out there have an owners manual for a 231 Massey that can tell me how fast they will go in high gear? I have an Amish gentleman who'd like to know as they tend to road them a lot.

Its a 8sp transmission with the 13.6x28 tires.

Hello,
Never a truer word was said by Tony!!! In the UK we have 8-speed 230s and 240s. Interestingly there is a significant difference in the top speed figures given by MF for tractors fitted with 28" tyres. This will be down to how MF have managed to tune or detune (whichever way you look at it) these very similar tractors with what is essentially the same engine and gear train.
According to MF the figures are;

MF 230 Gear 8 of 8 21.4Km/h - 13.3mph. No engine speed given
MF 240 Gear 8 of 8 26.73Km/h - 16.6mph max engine power at 2250 erpm.

We know a little of the Amish culture on this side of the pond. Would I correct in assuming that this would be to replace horses for a job that they cannot manage?

Never clocked it but our 240 on 13.6-28's moves right along in 8th. Got to be 20 MPH anyways. Engine turns up to 2300 RPM

I've been told by the local Mennonite mechanic that they have also made fast IH 560 Farmalls for road travel. Just replace the rear end ring and pinion with parts from a 400 or 450 that had a 2.63 ratio, while the 560 came 3.26 ratio. Then add 18.4 X 38 rear tires, speed up the engine from its stock 1800 full load speed, and you end up well over 30 MPH. Of course getting it stopped with tired brakes is another matter..
