MH44K Transmission Shaft Seal Leak

Gentlemen,
I am working on a 1948 MH44K with the Massey 260 4 cylinder engine. I just rebuilt the brakes and had to replace both of the brake shaft seals. All along I have had a substantial leak around the input shaft seal and am unsure of how to replace it. My question is how do I disconnect the coupling hubs and chain so that I can get to the seal, and do I need to move the engine forward to help? My I&T shop manual shows nothing concerning this procedure. I Know that I have to locate a better shop manual. This thing has been an on-going project since 2005. This is a working tractor. I appreciate any assistance given concerning this matter.
Regards,
Vince

There should be clips on the chain to get it off, then splines on the coupler.

You will need the pull the engine to get those off, or split the tractor at the front of the transmission.

If you split it, you will still have to remove the couplers. Much easier and safer to remove the chain and slide the engine out of the way. Then slide the couplers off for access to the seal. Ben

I have always pulled engine, but thought to suggest split.

You will want to make sure the steering shaft is loose and out of the way, they will bend, BTDT.

Thanks for the reply. I take all advice I can get. This is my first time working on this brand of tractor.
Regards, Sapper
