240 alternator

First question on the mf site. Can I cross reference a 1986 mf240 diesel alternator at a parts store? Thanks.

A lot depends on the parts store and the people in them. I am pretty sure I could at my local O'Reilly's but I have been going there for 36 years now so I have them trained LOL

If you have a place close by that rebuilds alternators that maybe a better choice. If you get a re-man one it maybe a little different, like what wire goes where, or something else.

My alternator went south a few(5?) years ago on the 245 diesel. I had one that came off of a 1985? Chevy S-10 and it bolted right up wires and all, nothing special about it. Yes a rebuild is fine but most any of the Delco will work. Mine is still going strong. Your mileage may vary

A lot of 240's has a Lucas alternator, way different than the GM.
