On my list of roundtuits this spring was a new, reman or rebuilt starter for my trusty MF50 diesel. Buying parts at a place yesterday and off
handedly asked the guy if he might have a starter for this tractor. He had a new starter in stock, and while it looked like the one (from the pics I
had on my tablet), his cross reference didn't mentioned the "50? - but it did for other Perkins 152 type engines for Massey Fergusons. So with
the agreement that if it were the wrong size - anything, I could return, so I bought it.
Spent some time last night and this morning putting the starter on - it is an exact match to the old starter.
Tractor hasn't been started since last August, 9 months. Tapped the key and the engine started instantly on the first crank - even with a weak
battery. Simply amazing.
My favorite tractor - this 52 year old Massey Ferguson 50 diesel. If they were still made, I'd buy a new one today.
Great thanks for those who answered my posts regarding troubleshooting the starter from a few months ago.
Next up is a complete engine, fuel and transmission oil/filter change and the MF50 is ready for haying duty.
Thanks again,
Bill
