Hello, my massy harris 444 power steering belt is loose and I'm not seeing a way to adjust it. the pump sits right on top of the generator and the belt runs only down to the generator. Another belt runs from the generator, and around the crank shaft and water pump pulley. The generator has a normal adjustment slit, but you cant pull it tight enough to to tighten the power steering belt because you are pulling against the already tight, other belt. I can't see any other adjustments but have to be missing something?

That's the Char-Lynn setup that was used on the 44s, has the wide fan-generator belt like only the 44 used. If I recall dad's was adjustable by moving the pump or bracket, not sure which. If this is in a 444 then I'd suspect the engine has been changed, triples never had that wide belt.

Thanks for the comments....
That sounds familiar, 444 tractor with 44 engine. Had this tractor hauled off for repair a few years ago and I told them I was also had trouble with the power steering and they said all they had to do was tighten the belt and it worked fine the last few years, so I know there has to be an adjustment somehow? I'm just not seeing one. It appears the bracket holding the pump on is solid with no slits to adjust it, Iv'e scraped around the bolt areas looking. What is the difference in the 44 and 444 engine? Thank's again.

Continental made the engines for both tractors, 44 had the 260 while the 444 had 277 cubes. Maybe some well placed washers for shims would work to tighten the belt.

If you could scrape it down to the original colour, red would suggest a 44 engine, gold a 444 engine. Numbers should be stamped on the upper right rear of the block, just below the head. Ben
