363 continental

44s did have a six cylinder engine, so you should be able to make it fit. Just make sure you have the long frame tub. Ben

Direct fit for MH203 as the 363 is just the bigger brother to the 330 which is stock motor in the MH203.

Most MH 44s were the 260 four cylinder, but there was the 44-6 with the flathead F226 Continental too. Smooth running, but less power than the four. Found some M363 specs, 4 inch bore, 4 13/16 stroke, 146 HP @ 3000, 304 FT/LB torque @ 1600. Would be a good bolt in to replace the M330 in the MH 203 tractor. I had a B427 Continental flathead from a Fox chopper, started to put it in a 44 chassis. Sold the project to a neighbor, hope to see it when he gets it done someday. Going to be a REALLY TIGHT fit, even with the clutch housing moved back the crank pulley just cleared the steering box on the long frame. I still have a TD-427 Continental military turbodiesel engine, not sure what that may go in someday...

Excellent into. They are quite powerful then. I kinda figured it would have to be by the size of this snowblower it's sitting in. So my best bet would be to find something with the 6cyl continental setup in already. Thanks for the help

Good luck finding a MH 203! A 44 with the 6 cylinder engine would have the long tub, so it would be your best choice for a transplant. You could also use a 55 chassis for a stronger rear end if you plan to get the full power out of it. Ben

The 44 I had was a row crop, those came with the long frame. Had the stripped block with crank, flywheel, and clutch housing all setting in the frame when I sold it to help with some measuring. Guy that bought it has a BIG job ahead of him. Centash is right, good luck finding a 203...

Were the 55s all 6cyl or were they both. So basically if I find anything with a continental 6cyl the bellhousing will mount up??

I am not sure why they did it, but at a local vintage tractor museum there is a 444 with a flat head 6 in it,I know they never came out with one. I am pretty sure the MH 55 only ever had the 4cyl in it. We used to have a super 101 tractor it had a 251 cuin flat head 6cyl Chrysler in it, it was shorter than the 44 4cyl we had.I have seen all kinds of engine swaps in MH tractors but do not know about the 363.

The bell housing should come with the engine. The bell housing on a 55 engine is specific to that engine. If your continental has a bell housing and output shaft, it should not be to hard to line it up to the transmission input shaft. Ben

If your m363 is on a snowblower it probably has SAE industrial bellhousing probably not a good fit. The m363 is a bare back block so you can engineer a block plate to match up a 44 bellhousing which would then fit your tub frame.
My brother built that type of setup 35 years ago.

The 363 will fit in a 44-6 row crop frame. use the bell housing from 44-6, flywheel must be machined to fit the larger crank on the 363. The plate on the bell housing will need 2 holes drilled. input shaft to the transmission will need to be shortened to slid engine back. Other things will need to be changed. Look on You Tube The Worlds Fastest Massey to see my two
pulling tractors. One has the 363 engine the other one has a continual 427 flat head block with cut off v8 ford 460 heads. These engines will fit with several alterations.
