Need G176 Crank or complete engine

Anyone know a source for a crank for a 165 Massey G176 Gas Contenental engine. If I found a complete engine I might consider that option. My 3165 I purchased was smoking real bad. Tryed everything but nothing worked so I pulled the head and the pan. Then I pulled the pistons and dropped the middle main bearing. All I can say is the bearings and crank weren't pretty. Pistons and sleeves look ok but rings are shot. Worse part is now I have to pull the block and it is a loader tractor. Appreciate any help. Dick

Unless the cast iron blew up like a grenade, take the crank to a machine shop and order a kit. Or take the whole thing to a shop if you don't think you and your friends can do it. But yeah, taking the loader off is the best way.

Just for fun I looked for a G176 crankshaft which are available new. A new one goes for $800 - $1000 :shock:

Got the engine out today. Plan to pull the crank tomorrow and take a look at it. The middle main bearing looked pretty bad. I think it is beyond grinding. I am going to see if it can be built up and turned. Dick

That may cost as much as a new crank if you want it done right, or it you can even find anyone that will do that at all. There is main bearings available for the crank main journal to be turned .030" undersize, and rod bearings to .020" undersize. Have the crankshaft checked for cracks before having any work done to it, and or spending money on it.
