I was bush hogging over some privet and hit something too large and the pto quit turning and the hydraulic 3 pt hitch quit working. pto will work on ground speed. I was certain it was the clutch so I split the tractor. Its not the clutch. I can spin the pto input shaft where I split it and it does not turn the pto output shaft. What have I broken? Do i need to remove the seat and then the hydraulic pump cover? I'm new here so please go easy on me. Thanks guys.

Sounds like you have gear damage in the transmission. Prove it by shifting the PTO into engine drive and then turn the PTO shaft while a helper watches the front input shaft, it should turn. If not I'd suspect serious damage in the drive train. Had a 165 years ago that had a gear tooth off that would make a knocking noise, you may have shelled all the gear teeth off too.

Pull the lift cover off and take a quick look. The sleeve that connects the engine driven pto/pump may have sheared the cotter pin and slid forward thus disconnecting the pump and pto output shaft. This is the best case scenario of a problem. I would start there. The sleeve has a cotter pin to hold it in position.

I found the problem. The coupler that joins the hydraulic pump to the shaft coming from the transmission case had shattered into five pieces. I have gotten another one and now am freshening up the lift cylinder and piston in hopes of fixing a different problem. my box blade and bush hog wont stay in a steady position.
