MF3165 Hydraulic lift pump disaster

Hello again,

Thank you to David P and Brendon for their earlier advice on re-insterting the PTO shaft. I thought I'd clean the hydraulic lift pump oil strainer before re-inserting the PTO shaft. Upon removing the side cover, I discovered this disaster.

The strainer assembly was laying at the bottom of the differential housing. The control lever roller was there too. And it looks like part of the strainer intake housing exploded, as little pieces were part of the debris too. (see attached pictures)

Also, now I can move the camshaft, along with the strainer housing, up and down about 1".

What do you suggest doing next?

Thank you for your help.

Hi,
This does not look good but it'll take more than this to keep a good MF down! I think that broken dowel pin/s may have
caused this to happen. If you are able to lift the pump shaft up and down by more than 1/8" it suggests that the pump
is 'hanging' on the output shaft from the gearbox. On either side of the casing you will see a small oval plate
retained by two 5/16 unf nuts. Remove the nuts and withdraw the plates. The pin should have a shoulder which engages in
the front plate of the pump. If the pin/s are broken there is a very good chance that the plate will be broken as well.
You will need to remove the cover and replace parts as required. New or second-hand parts should be readily available.
Come back if you need any more help.

Hi DavidP,

Is the red arrow pointing to where the pin engages the pump?
And is that part of the front plate?

Thanks!
