need help on 3165 gas that smokes

Picked up a 3165 gaser. It ran bad. Done a complete tune up and got the spark plug wires corrected. Now it runs smooth and starts right up but it smokes a lot? No blow by out of breather or oil filler? Pulled and checked Spark plugs and they are pretty oily. Any ideas? Dick
 
It's a long shot but I've gotten a couple of tractors to stop smoking with a product called Seafoam. At worst you're out $8 for the Seafoam, a little gas, and your time.

Put about 1/2 the can of Seafoam in an old spray bottle. Get the tractor warmed up, take the air cleaner off, and start spraying into the intake, as much as you can without killing the engine.

Once you get that sucked through the engine, shut it off and let it stew overnight. Next day, start it up and run it. You'll think you ruined it because so much smoke will come out, but it'll be GRAY smoke instead of blue. That should clear up after a while. Might take a few runs. Hopefully after that the smoke will be greatly reduced or completely gone.
 
I think you the Continental engine, if you do there are valve seals (you only really need them on the intake valves because they see intake vacuum, and the oil goes into the engine then burns oil) the valve seal part number is 839042M91. You will need to remove the valve springs to put them on, but it can be done with the head on the engine. If its burning oil that bad it may need new valve guides, and possibly new valves depending on how loose the valves are in the guides.
 
I have not tried sea foam. I did put some bars leak
smoke additive in and I think it might have helped
some? Dick
 
X2 on valve seals and guides. You may get away with putting new seals on, but if it is a tractor you put a lot of hours on the head probably needs doing.

Had the same thing on a 175 with 236. The rubber valve seals (the few that were left, most were gone or broken off the valve stems) had turned to hard plastic.
