MF 230 Gas clutch/pto

230 with 2 stage clutch. Everything works fine but I have a lot of rattle in the clutch housing. When the transmission is disengaged, the rattle is still there. With the clutch pedal all the way to the floor, disengaging the PTO shaft, the rattle disappears. What is the likely cause? Not anxious to go after it as all things are functional, but even less anxious to go after it without having a clue as to what to look for.

I have one doing the same thing. The pto would not engage with the tractor running the guys on here told me to adjust it down some more so I went to .057 and now it will engage But as I step down on the clutch pedal I notice a clattering sound at one point but as I continue through the depression it quits. Just does it at one point. I don't know what it is.

You may try to lower the hydraulic position control if rattle stops it may be two things
if hydraulic components are slightly worn the hydraulic control valve will not stop pumping at the
maximum high of the lift. To correct: adjust the stopper on quadrant to avoid the position lever to go too far.
OR: it may be one or both dowel pins broken (which hold the hydraulic pump) the little triangular plates with 2 nuts
each side of the transmission housing.

It may be something else..I had these situations trough the years.
