175 Loader Setup

Got a friend who just bought a 175 with loader. He can't get the loader to work right. PO has supply and return to loader tied in to a rear remote. Is this the correct way to supply hydraulics or is there taps in the system which should be used?

Does it use a diverter valve under the seat with hoses leading to spool valves, or are the spool valves for the rear remotes mounted below the seat?.

Diverter valve (top picture), spool valve (bottom picture).

The spool valves for the remotes are below the seat. Do they all come with a diverter valve, or will he have to find one? I assume the diverter valve (by it's name) disables the remotes when you are using a loader.

The diverter valve diverts the hydraulic pump for the 3 point to auxiliary remotes (can't use the 3 point, and the remotes at the same time). You have to put the position control for the 3 point all the way up. and into the constant pumping position to use the auxiliary hydraulics. The diverter valve is nicer to me than the spool valves that bolt in-place of the diverter valve (those spool valves are always in the way). With the diverter valve you can mount the spool valves for remotes anywhere they feel comfortable to you. The only thing is running a loader off the 3 point hydraulic system is that the pump is only 4.5 gpm which means the loader will operate slow. For a loader you need around 14 - 20 gpm pump if you want to work it faster than a turtle.

That's why we're here. For a loader its better to put a bigger pump, and a bigger oil tank with a spin-on hydraulic filter. You can mount the pump to run off the front of the engine, but you loose some of your turning radius because of the pump drive shaft. Another alternative is a pto driven pump, but it has to be removed if you need the pto for something else.

(quoted from post at 07:51:52 04/19/16) you can still use the PTO if you set up a pump like this. Not exactly the safest pump I've ever seen but it works.

Looks like a home made setup, you probably could make a guard to help keep grass, and debris (or your fingers) out of the chain. At least you don't have to remove the pto pump.

I had trouble following this thread, I think I'm up to speed now. Thanks for the replies.

One more clarification: This tractor has two remotes, with the valves controlled by levers offset to the right side, near the three point control. The levers operate the valves through a tube for one lever and a shaft in that tube for the other lever. Do you expect to use those remotes to run the loader? I thought I read "no" earlier, but the last post indicated remote valves on the diverter valve location. Is it common for a 175 to have two remotes for implement cylinders?

You can run as many spool valves off the diverter you want. My brothers MF150 has the diverter valve with just one spool valve mounted on the fender near the 3 point controls. He is going to take the single spool valve off, and replace it 3 spool valve setup.
