Hello Everybody, I'm a Newbie to Your Forum. My Friends call me
The Dude or just Dude. I have a Inherited MF30 with a AD4.203 Perkins with problems. Last season an oil leak developed. I needed the tractor so I hung " Puppy Pads" underneath to keep
it off my ground. This new year.. new problem. "Making OIL" IE:
fuel getting in engine, and hard start. I believe both problems are related, The Lift Pump ? This unit has a front loader and obscures seeing alot. I put Florescent Dye in the oil and could only see It was coming above and behind the the starter on the right side.
My ? is do any of you think I could blessed with the lift pump leaking both exsternally, oil and internally fuel ? At any rate I am going to change out lift pump and maybe go electric.
All advice / opinions welcome !

That is where the lift pump is, and it could leaking internally, and or externally. The external leak could also be from one of the fuel lines going to the lift pump.

There are also two small external oil lines that go the cylinder head, and the cable drive for the tachometer is on the back, right hand side of the block where oil can leak from (aside from the head, or valve cover gasket).

High probability is leaky/porous lift pump diaphragm putting oil into the sump.(I had the same, they can look OK but still be porous) Not difficult to renew. External leak may be due to leaky connections to the pump. Easy to get these cross threaded. Previous repair attempts may have done this if someone has had the pump off/apart.

Considering the age on some of these injector pumps, and the fact that a lot of them some are still running with the original drive seal. My brothers 1965 MF 150 going on 51 years old with the original drive seal still in it, it's a pretty impressive injector pump.

Thank You very much . Dude

That's some news I can use Thank YOU !

Should it be the injector pump it is not as difficult a job to do, its a lot easier than other injector pumps. More often than not its usually the lift pump, and like Chas said it is easy for someone to cross thread the fuel lines into the fuel pump making it leak externally (which makes it hard to start). I usually just replace the lift pump with a new one (they usually get all worn out).

Replaced mine a couple months back..... easy fix, just make sure your fuel lines seal or you will have an air leak to chase...
