MF35 Radiator/can't find identical replacement

I need to replace the radiator on my 35, but nothing available matches the exact dimensions. The current radiator is 24 1/2 by 15 7/8 outside (+/- 1/8)and 18 3/4 by 15 1/4 core. The nearest available is similar, but an inch shorter in the outside height. The distributor lists it as a diesel radiator, but my tractor is a gas. (Continental.)

How critical is it to get the exact dimensions?

How about the fan guard? If it won't go back on the new radiator, is there any potential harm to the engine if I leave it off?

The old radiator's part number is 186830M91. That model is available, but again, it's not the same dimensions as the old radiator.

I appreciate any help.

I appreciate the reply. However, that doesn't really answer my question. The part you listed is still smaller (by 1 1/2 inches high) than the current radiator.

I would start looking at salvage yards or if yours is not to bad try to find a good repair shop I had one repaired and it fit perfect and works great. Randy

The ones I find that is close to your core measurements are either too tall, or too wide, and the inlet/outlet sizes are different. I'd check with some industrial radiator shops, and see if they can re-core the one you have, or find a good used one. Either that or do some modifications to your fan shroud to make it fit the shorter core (the fan shroud does help with cooling). Wish I had better news for you.

if there is any way to find a proper radiator shop to boil out and repair you old radiator.
it was made of top quality material back in the day and it fits.

the new ones will not weigh near as much as yours.

I think that fan shroud is very important, if you do not use it, the air will take the easiest route and go around your radiator

all the time you read about guys that replace the motors in their jeeps with larger motors, then do not or can not replace the fan shrouds as they have replaced the radiator,

then they start having heat problems, because the air is not pulled through the radiator, it goes around the radiator.

do not let that little motor get hot or looking for a radiator will be the least of your problems!!!!!!!!!

have you ever tested your theory? three of my 35's have fan shrouds in place and two do not. the two without shrouds hold a piece of cardboard flat against the radiator just the same as the shrouded ones do. I did the test. FWIW.

I guess it will not hurt anything to run without the shroud, if he can not find a radiator that will properly fit, the shroud is the least of his problems,

I just mentioned it as when I am down in the bottoms rotary cutting heavy weeds and grass in 90+ degrees, the little Fergusons cooling system is maxed out and the front of the radiator grill screen is about 1/2 covered in weed seed and debris,

You need all the air you can get flowing (directly) through the radiator, just my thoughts,

Much harder on the tractors cooling system than holding a piece of cardboard up in front of the radiator in the driveway,

You don't want to overheat a Continental engine too much, it needs every bit of air you can going into the radiator as you can get. Continental engines use pretty light weight casings which as everyone knows loves to crack, especially if they get too hot. Then you have much bigger problems.

I have ran equipment in hot temps and heavy debris and have used additional screens mounted 1.5" to 22" in front of the radiator to assist in cooling the equipment. It does work, ugly but sometime you do what you have to do. just a thought.
