I picked up a 135 diesel. It starts but only after what seems like to long of cranking? If we pull start it it starts up pretty quick. When it does start it runs good and sounds OK but I seem to have a lot of blowby with a little oil coming out of the breather hose? Is this a ring problem or a venting issue? I'm not familiar with the Perkins Engine. Thanks, Dick.

My 65 diesel had a lot of blow by. It turned out to be the head gasket blown from #2 cylinder to where the oil drains back down from the rocker arms. Hard starting could be due to low compression.

With the engine running and the Engine OIL filler CAP to the ENGIBE REMOVED is there evidence of pressure/blow by?

Is there any evidence of Engine COMPRESSION entering the cooling system? Bubbles in the radiator, coolant being forced out the Radiator over flow?

Do you know the "Engine OIL PRESSURE", when engine Coolant is at 180 deg Temp?

How may Operating HRS on the TACK.?

How many hrs. since major engine overhaul?

Bob..

What you describe far as starting goes being slow can be injection pump related. If it starts slow with a good battery and starter, or not at all can be signs the pump hydraulic head and rotor are grooved badly, allowing fuel to leak internally instead of going to the injectors. Pull starting spins the engine faster so it starts quicker, overcoming the internal leakage. But as others have mentioned, if compression is low that will affect starting too.
