1977 MF 245 Lift Problem

I have been restoring a 1977 MF 245. I had recently completed all the work and was in the process of moving the tractor from one place to another when I realized the lift quit working with it in the raised position (no implement attached). It stayed up for a week or so, and one day while i was messing with it one of the auxiliary hydraulic lines began to leak very slowly. I didn't notice the leak at the time, but a couple days later the lift was down. While moving the levers that day the leaking line blew (how much pressure or how far is it normal for the hydraulic fluid to go when a line bursts?). It has now been a couple month and have since removed the auxiliary lines and capped them off and tried setting all the levers in every possible combination and the lift does nothing. Today I drained some of the fluid so I could see inside the side plate and what little I can see in there seems to be working correctly.

Any solutions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. If I could figure out how to load them, I have some pictures with the side plate off and of the tractor.[/img]

Below the seat on the right hand side does it have a valve like the one on the top part of the picture (diverter valve), or a (spool valve) lower part of picture.

First picture in bottom right shows remote hydraulic value. Control lever was not on it when I bought the tractor.

Second picture is inside view through opening for response control cover.

Third picture is just to show which of the MF 245 I have. The flat fender models have some differences according to the manual.

Also, the line that burst was extremely dry rotten.

My brother having used both the spool valve, and the diverter valve prefers the diverter valve. It's easier to work using the diverter valve, plus the diverter valve doesn't take up so much space under the seat (plus without the spool valve below the seat its a lot easier to get on, and off the tractor).

Thanks! The website you sent the link to will be very helpful when I order the parts to fix the problem.... Still have to find the problem. Wish there was a step by step guide. Like first check this part and if is ok check that part and so on.

I found the MF operators manual for basic, and auxiliary hydraulics on my computer in a Adobe PDF file. The pictures aren't very good, but it should help in understanding, and trouble shooting the hydraulics. If you want it you can send me a email to: [email protected] Put "MF hydraulics" for the subject, and I'll send you the MF operators manual for basic, and auxiliary hydraulics file. [/i]
