My 230 developed a leak around the rod in the steering cylinder. I removed the cylinder and after making a good solid spanner wrench and applying heat, I finally got the gland unscrewed from the front end. I purchased a kit from the local AGCO dealer and have the new seals and wiper installed but don't see any way of getting the piston back in the inner tube as it is recessed about an inch and a half inside the outer tube.
I don't want to tear the new seal so I thought I would remove the inner tube and replace the o=ring behind it before re-assembly. My question is, how in the heck do you get that inner tube out? I have tried bending a wire to catch in the oil passage holes at the front end of the inner tube, but it won't come out. It does wobble around in there like it is just being held in by the o-ring.
I have rebuilt many different hydraulic cylinders before, but never worked on one with an inner tube for the piston.
I have a scan of the cylinder here: https://plus.google.com/photos/+bluegrallis/albums/6268741763557894273/6268741794510111522?pid=6268741794510111522&oid=101907304795732239945
