mf 135 multi-power removal

The only MF tractor we had without a Multi-Power was 135 and I really did miss it. Now if I had an MF with a broken Multi-Power I would have it repaired/replaced not removed.

I'd have to agree with the other guys. By the time you tear two of them apart to do the swap you could fix the MP. What's it doing wrong? You might get lucky and find its just the linkage or something. Rebuilding the MP isn't too bad of a job.

I don't think you have to swap out the tranny to rid it of multi power. It would take some googling, but I remember years ago Big Dean Austin talking about this. I can't remember the details, but I recall there is some welding involved?

My trusty MF 50 diesel started life as a multi power tractor, but when I got it, the MP was long gone. I'm assuming it was modified vs a complete tranny swap. I say that because, IMHO - it's a rare find to see a MF with a good engine and a failed tranny. Bullet proof comes to mind and with that a shortage of donor tranny's. So a conversion was figured out.

Did I mention I really like my MF50.....

Good luck,
Bill

The easiest way it to get a 135 without multi-power, un-bolt the multi-power transmission behind the engine, roll the complete transmission/rear end away. Then roll the other complete non multi-power transmission/rear end in, and bolt it back up. I wish I had multi-power on my 135 instead of just a 6 speed.

i too have a 135 badly neglected, and i thought the multi power didnt work, until i read here about 1). cleaning the filter in behind the pto lever plate. 2). adjusting the push rod on the end of the MP linkage where it enters the transmission case.

Big Dean and I had a chat on this issue too. He said his solution was to drill through the clutch pack, tap threads onto one side and lock the pack together with 4 cap screws - 5/16, as I recall.

He cautioned that you had to be careful to maintain the alignment so the pack could be re-installed on the shaft.

I did not complete the operation however.

I have removed a dozen or so through the years and there is a couple of ways of doing it.
Complete dis assembly of the trans is required, a little cutting and welding and a little
fab work. To answer the question, Why remove it? The multi powers only hold back in the
high side and freewheels in the low. Most of these Masseys had very poor or no brakes. We
live in the area of steep mountain farms and not a lot of level land. Do you need to know
more?
