Want some input from someone who has a MF 175 diesel tractor, on what kind of tractor it has been for you. I want to use it as a loader tractor and maybe shred with our 10 ft shredder. It looks to be in good mechanical shape.Checked all the normal stuff. What do yall think?

I've got 2 175s and 2 180s (same as 175 but in high crop). I don't have a loader on one but plan on putting one on in the near future. I think one would make for a nimble loader tractor. I run a 9' haybine and a 327jd baler with a kicker with no problem. Plenty of power. I like them well enough to keep buying them but I'm a little Massey biased.

We have a few 175's. In our experience they are really good tractors. The 236 is a good engine. The drive train is simple and robust. We like the multipower, but we don't have a lot of hills. Hydraulics are adequate, we like the ones that have the factory remote, NOT the diverter valve. We use them in the vegetables for planting, spraying and cultivating. Use them with mounted forklifts for handling vegetable bins.

One of them my dad bought brand new in 1967. It has 8000 hrs on it. Has had a few clutches and I did an in frame on it at 6500 hrs. (the valve seals and guides had given up and was dripping a lot of oil down the valves and dripping out of the exhaust manifold and muffler).

The only weakness is the steering. It works well but needs to be set up just right and needs rebuilding when it gets sloppy. I have seen in past posts where people have thought the steering a little light for heavy FEL work and having done a fair amount of repairs to 175 steering I would second that.

The later 175's had a slightly better steering set up.

Over all great tractor, that is why I'm always looking for another.

We had one and it's successor a 168. Very good tractors indeed with good powerful torquey engines. ( The Perkins 236 was a great engine) Put one in a field with a an IH 674 ( which was rated at 12 hp more at the engine than a 175 or 168) ) pulling the same size plow and The Massey will leave the Inter behind.

I bought one with intentions of reselling it and making a little cash 6yrs ago. Still have it. Started using it a little and hated the multi-power at first, then got used to it and like it. Great when you come to a rough or heavier spot baling. Use it for baling, tedding, raking and brush hogging. Sips fuel and has some pep for its size. Pulls a new Holland 311 baler with a full load of hay behind it with power to spare. I'm just picky with who I let operate it. The free wheeling in mp low could catch someone not used to it off guard.
