Hey everyone!

My 3pt lift and pto stopped working at the same time.
Before they quit,I had to put the pto lever in position while the engine was not running.
Other wise it would grind trying to engage the pto.
Are the too related in function?
If so what should I check?

Yes they are related. The hydraulic pump is driven by the the same shaft that drives the PTO. It sounds like the second stage clutch disc is shot. There is a plate on the underside of the clutch housing held by 4 bolts. If you take it off you will likely find pieces of clutch facing.

You have to split the Transmission from the Engine to replace the clutch components:

Never ever use the PTO if you have to shut the engine off to engage the PTO:

More than one operator has lost a limb or two not to mention their life:

Thanks a bunch!

I was afraid that would be the case!
The engine clutch is at the end of adj,so I had better get to work!

Have a great day! and a better one tomorrow!

Parts shouldn't be a problem. You will need a repair manual. Do you have one? There are some special tools required to disassemble, reassemble and set up the clutch. You can make them. The manual will explain that.

I would get a clutch kit, its a lot less hassle. The clutch kit should also come with a new throw out, and pilot bearing along with a line-up tool for the clutches. I would also replace the seals for the transmission, and the rear main seal on the engine while you have it split. Nothing worse than having a old seal fail, and getting oil on your new clutch.

Thanks for the great tips!
Would not want to tear down twice!
