Cam bearings

If I remember correctly the G-176 had no cam bearings, like most other Continentals. The only one was at the cam nose in the front cover. Cam journals rive directly in the block bores. Will check the old Michigan bearing catalog and make sure.

Thanks for your reply. I have a 176 tore down that does have cam bearings in it, whether installed by some one to save a block or whatever is not known. Thanks, Swede

The bearing support is in the timing cover. The front bore in the block has a bearing in it. The cam rides directly in the bore on the center and rear bores. Thanks for your replies. Swede

I'll bet it's been done before, the old Michigan book shows no cam bearings for the G-176. It did show a set for the G-193, I wonder if they used the front bearing from that set? All the MF 65 gas I've overhauled never came with cam bearings, but the G-193 in both gas or diesel was an odd duck with dry sleeves even though it looked a lot like the 176.

The AGCO parts book only shows a front support bearing. I would measure the od of the cam, the id of the bore in the block, the width of the bearing, and start looking for a bearing. A machine shop that rebuilds industrial engines (or someone who has a bearing book with measurements) should be able to find a bearing that will work.
