The original subject was "My battle with the dealer over my 583 clutch kinda long".

not sure how to start a new discussion but i just bought a massey ferguson 573. they guy said it needed a new clutch? He told me over time the clutch pedal gradually came further and further out. the pedal is now about shin high and tractor hardly pulls. it goes in every gear once the clutch is engaged? is there any adjustments i can try before splitting the tractor?
thanks in advance.

Sounds like clutch is self adjusting and there may be a pedal height adjustment on the linkage. I am guessing if the pedal has moved that much, and it slips the clutch is due for replacement.

They have some adjustment, but if its already slipping under any load you can bet (if the clutch disks aren't gone which sounds like they probably are) the disks would also be glazed from slipping (so it would need a clutch). It should have a cover on the bottom of the bell housing that's held on by 4 bolts you maybe able to see something by looking in there. There is 3 clutch fingers, and if they are sticking way out from the pressure plate, or if you smell something burnt the clutch is toast.
