Hey all!!! New to the site/forum... recently purchased an MF 30 Industrial with a front loader. With the last snow storm that just hit the Northeast I got her stuck in the snow. I attempted to move the differential lock handle but had no luck. My question is which way should this handle move?? ie side to side or front to back

I thank you all in advance

Welcome.

You should be able to tell looking at where it goes into the rear axle. If the lever is spined onto the shaft, it rotates. If there is kind of a knob and pivot, it pushes away from the housing.

If you haven't been using it, it's likely STUCK anyways. Get used to using the wheel brakes. Diff lock been stuck on our MF 240 for years now. Just been putting off taking it apart to fix.

It looks to be a fork type mechanism on the end of the shaft that pulls a hex style pin in and out of the differential... Any more info would be appreciated. Hopefully the photos work

You have planetary rears by the looks of it.

That hex thing comes out from the rear axle to engage the lock.

I'd try soaking the linkage with penetrating oil, and around the lock shaft.

Same set up on an MF 250 I used to run, lock was VERY stiff, but I got it working freely.

I will soak it in penetrating oil this weekend... will advise. Thank you!

Try a large wrench on the outer hex and see if it will wiggle back and forth any, don't try to spin it around. The hex must go IN toward the tractor center for the internal spool to engage the diff, and OUT is off/released position.

The large hex does move in an out... well slightly because I can't move the armature. I have been soaking it in penetrating oil and giving it a few "gentle" hits with the hammer. Just to be clear the piece that looks to be a backwards "C" (which houses the sphere attached to the handle) that should flip up and towards the machine correct? As far as I can tell the movement of the handle would be forward and backwards which would cause that other piece to flip back towards the inside of the machine... I have the owners manual but of course there was no explanation of movement.
