MF 1225 Hydrostatic - how can I tow it?

Making an offer on a non-running MF 1225 diesel tractor and I need to know how I can tow it to load it on my trailer if they accept my offer.

Also what do you think is a fair price for this tractor that doesn't run. They said it was ran out of diesel and will not start. Not sure what these little tractors are worth and wanted your opinion.

Thanks.

I would be wary of someone that said it doesn't run due to running out of fuel. I would guess that the owner's manual covers bleeding of the fuel system. They could be hiding something much more expensive that has kept the engine from running. Not running...........parts only would be my offer.

Hi, nobody in their right mind would try and sell a tractor that would not run on the basis that it has run out of fuel. A small quantity of fuel and vent the system will make it worth a lot more. If you see the tractor verify that the fuel tank is empty and if necessary take a can of fuel with you. The 1225 is a 1.1 litre tractor with the E3112 engine manufactured by Iseki for MF. The Iseki model was a TM223. If there is fuel in the tank I would be suspicious of a blocked fuel filter, failed lift pump or failed main pump. A replacement main pump would be very expensive. Depending on condition it is possible that the old unit may be beyond repair. There may be other issues as well such as a problem with the hydrostat pump or transmission. The 1999 price is given as $11,500. A tractor in reasonable and running condition should be worth around $2,500 to $4,000. Looking at a worst case scenario I would be looking to buy this for around $1,500. That should allow you a reasonable margin for expenditure.
As to towing it; Most hydrostats have a 'neutral' valve somewhere on the casing. Turning this will allow oil to flow freely through the hydrostat so that it can be towed. The valve can normally be operated by hand and should have some indication of which way you would have to turn it.

You say this about them, BUT this is the daughter of the man who owned it. This is commonly the case with inherited equipment in the Southern United States. He has since passed away and they are selling off everything on the property becuase they are selling the house and property and it all needs to be removed. I am offering them cash for this tractor plus everything else in the pictures. They already mentioned around $2,000 for everything but I don't want to take advantage of them........

Hi, I understand the situation and it would be unfair to take advantage of a family in this situation. If everything in
your photos is included in the $2000 then my advce would be to grab it as quickly as you can. For us in the UK we would
be looking at around ?1400-1500. As long as it does not cost you a lot of money for transport and you can shift the
disc harrow and Allis I believe, this has to be a very good buy. Don't hang about though.

I think we are going to offer them considerably more given that we don't want to take advantage and that there is alot of stuff there. They are located about 2 1/2 hours from us and we will need to carry our skid steer loader to load the stuff onto 2 trucks and trailers.

They accepted my offer and I'm going to get the Massey Ferg. This weekend. Will get the other equipment the next Weekend when I have more time to haul a forklift.

Does anyone know how to release the hydrostatic on this MF 1225 so I can load it? Or at least know where the release can be found? I would look but I'm 1 1/2 hours away.

I think I will try calling the nearest MF Dealer to see if their mechanics would know.
