100 series center housing

Hello,

I wonder about something regarding the center housings for the MF 165 and larger. Is the first housing, used with dry brakes weaker than the housing used with wet brakes that came later, and is the last center housing for pumps with hanging filter even stronger than the number two ?

In other words, did they strengthen it one time, or did they strengthen it two times ?

Hi Bill,
I have no info on whether the housings were strengthened or not. All I can do to answer your question partly is to look at which tractors particular centre housings were fitted to and compare their sizes and the different loads to which they might be subjected;
1664 511M1 MF 165 dry and wet brake,MF 590, MF 185 from S/n 325666.

Hello David,

Nice to hear from you. In your time with service on the 100 series, have you ever been able to handle empty housings and feel any difference in the weight of them ? I mean, if they add some material here and there or all over for that matter it does not take much before the weight increases quite a bit. After all, a cube 10x10x10 cm (4x4x4 inches) is like 17 - 18 lbs (8 kg)
and if you use that cube as a flat piece of sheet metal it will not be a very thick layer around the housing.

Hi Bill,
I have never had the opportunity to handle an empty housing. Whenever they were removed either lifting tackle or the splitting rail was used. I doubt that any increases in wall/web thickness would ever be notified to the general public. It is likely that only factory/foundry staff would know about it. MF would be unlikely to release it unless they could turn it into a selling point. "Our castings are now EVEN stronger" if you know what I mean.
