Massey Super 90 steering issues

Hello, I am trying to help my brother in law out over the phone
on some issues he is having on his super 90 Massey. There is
a collar on the steering sector that he is claiming has a piece
of belting holding the two collars together. I believe is coming
out of the pump but I'm not sure. He claims that the belt
broke, being held on by the ears as it looks to me in the
picture he sent me. The bolts on the ears look newer so I'm
curious if this is some sort of a Jerry Rigged type of deal or
not. It's serial number is the 9th one made so I don't know if
that has something to do with it or not. I'll try to help attach a
couple pictures, that would probably clear a lot of things up as
I haven't looked at it in person, only in the pictures, and I'm
not too familiar with Masseys. Any helps is appreciated.
Thank you

Yes looks like a farmer fix to me with a piece of fire hose. If you google the "AGCO" parts online site, sign in as a guest and search for "90" and Massery Ferugson you will get whole bunch of catalogs for equipment with 90 in the number. Go to the bottom of the list and go up five catalogs to 90 super, catalog #651108. Open it go down the list to the one labeled "Steering Gear", open it up for the parts breakdown and part # for the flexible coupler connection. He can either try to get a new one or do another farmer fix.

Like the previous poster said it looks like they used fire hose. I doubt a OEM part can be had so he'll probably have to make one. A piece of round baler belt or something similar should do the trick.

Hi,
I'm not familiar with the Super 90 but it looks as if this connection is fitted between the steering wheel and the
steering box as it would be a slow-turning connection. If you can get the proper one all well and good. If not you
would need a piece of heavy duty rubber matting. Probably thicker than a combine or baler belt. Probably no reason why
it could not be doubled. Ideally find material which has cotton reinforcing running through it. The original one may
have had bushes in it for the bolts to pass through so it could not be overtightened. If they are still in place it
will tell you how thick the original one was. Please let us know how you get on.

The fiber coupling is available from my MF dealer. It's purpose is to allow the shaft in the top of the steering column to move fore and aft to actuate the steering assist.

Hello Everybody,
I just wanted to say thank you for pointing me in the right direction with this. I was able to get a part number off of one of the online catalogs and get one ordered. Once again, thank you very much for all your help, ideas, and input!

On my 85D and Super 90 puller I have two couplers on each tractor, they will last much longer that way. Do need longer bolts though and I double nut each bolt.

A lot of cars, and trucks used those that type of coupler, many of parts guys, and mechanics refer to them as "rag joints". They also isolate you from feeling every little bump the front wheels hit in the steering wheel, it cuts down on fatigue in your hands, and arms. That same coupler probably fits more vehicles, or equipment making it still available.

Main reason it's used on 85 and 90 is because the gearbox shaft must be able to shift forward and rearward slightly to activate the PS spool valve. Valve can't shift if the coupler was rigid.
