Ad3.152 rebuild

I was hoping to get some advice on rebuilding my 3 cyl diesel perkins myself. It started knocking and now wont start, maybe seized. It turns over but has a point of extreme restriction that makes it turn over really slowly. I was told that it is probably the main crankshaft bearing. Is this a doable job. I took the whole thing apart to do a new clutch last year, so I am not scared. Is there someone near Baltimore who does these things for a reasonable cost. And lastly if its not worth it how much could I get for it as is. It is rough.

easy engine to do the hardest part is the sleeves they are dry and they are a pain to remove and install very thin and like glass.to remove i use a welder but this is NOT for the faint of hart.to put them in i freeze over night if i can't get dry ice or liquid nitrogen.

Well, not running, here is what i would do.

Take the head off. This will tell you a lot.

Also remember, if the crank is good, you can do an overhaul with the engine still in the tractor. Getting the oil pan down, still on the wheels, take the pistons and liners up, and new down. It is not that bad of a job. And, the A3-152 and AD3-152 is an easy engine to work on. The only thing you do not get worked on with the engine in the tractor is replaced the crankshaft seal in the back, as far as I can remember. The rest should be possible to do.

You would need a shop manual for the engine though. That would help you a lot, or at least the vital specifications. Good to get inexpensive parts for too. Hey, we are talking about the number one diesel engine in the world, no other diesel engine has been made in a bigger number as far as I know.
