Story

Noticed hydraulic leak at PTO shaft on MF 135, wondering how difficult it is to change out the PTO shaft seal. Thanks

(1) Drain oil from Rear End/Transmission/Hydraulic section of Tractor:

(OR)

(2) Place tractor with front end slopping down:

(OR)

(3) Back Tractor up RAMPS so as front end is low:

I've backed Tractor up RAMPS so as REAR TIRES were 8" above shop floor:

NOTE CAP SCREWS in PICTURE that have been removed:

PULL PTO ASSEMBLY from housing.

Inspect bearing assembly,oil seal and replace as per required.When an OIL SEAL shows signs of leakage, the bearing can be faulty:

To add a little to what Bob has said;
The biggest problem that you are likely to encounter is pulling the shaft out of the tractor. Although only held by the grip of an O ring it is likely to require some assistance. You can either fit the end of an implement PTO shaft to the tractor Pto shaft or insert a 5/16 bolt in the cross-drilling in the end of the shaft. Use a pry-bar with the pivot point close to the PTO shaft with suitable packing to lever the shaft rearwards.
Many PTO shaft oil leaks are caused by grass/hay getting caught in the seal. This prevents it seating fully. The only answer is to replace the seal. The seal can be removed using a suitable piece of tube or large socket. Refitment can be done in a large vice. When refitting the shaft ensure that it is straight and fully home. Smear the preferably new O ring with grease and tap in gently with the handle of a hammer. Replace the plate screws and oil.
