Massey 35 alternator

I have a 63 gas 35 Massey that has had an alternator conversion in the past before I had it. Well i had trouble with previous battery which was old so I put on a new and after about a month it was dead and needed charged. I'm just wondering if the alternator would be the cause or the wiring. It's a delco remy alternator with the plug in on top and a wire on the side. One wire runs to the ignition switch and one goes to the non working ammeter. If anyone could lead me in the right direction on wiring it would be a big help. I believe it's the wiring and not the alternator but what are yalls opinion. Thanks

Very first thing you need is a volt meter. Then take a reading of the battery not running. You should get around 12.5 volts give ot take. Then with it running check it again and you should get around 13-14 volt when it is running.
By the way your bad amp gauge could in fact be the problem depending on how it is wired.
The wire going to the ignition switch should go to the #1 on the plug on the alternator.
The #2 wire should go to the charge stud on the alternator and the charge wire should go to the amp gauge

Matter of fact you can do this test on the amp meter and doing so will tell you if it is the problem. Take a jumper wire and start it up then jumper across the amp gauge. If you get a spark when you jump across it then you know the amp gauge is the problem and yes you can leave it jumped

My test on my multimeter read 11.5 tractor not running on the battery and when running read -1.00. Wonder what this is about?

11.5 on a battery means it is not at full charge or going bad. Now that -1 when running say that your meter may not be reading right or you have a cheap digital meter which many times do not work well on tractor due to stray voltage

Like Old said, if the amp gauge is bad, ie- open, you probably won't get any charge. It also could have fried the alt. Alts are much more sensitive about open circuits than a gen. The old saw about seeing if a gen is good by unhooking the pos batt terminal while engine running will fry an alternator pretty much every time. An open ammeter could do the same thing.
