MF 165 Carb float needle sticking... clip?

Hey guys,
bought a rebuilt TSX 884 carb from a, usually, reliable local used parts dealer, hasn't run quite right since installation. The float needle has been sticking, disassembled and spayed with carb cleaner, still seems to stick in the seat more so than it should.
In doing a little research online, I noticed people talk of a small clip but the needle installed doesn't look like a clip would be able to tie it to the float.
I plan to replace the needle and seat, should it be one with a clip?

Some TSX carbs do use the clip, some do not. If the needle end that sits on the tang of the float has a round ring cut into it it should have the clip. If it is triangular with no ring, it isn't required. One tip you might try is to put a Q-tip in a drill with a little brass polish and clean the inside of the seat to a mirror finish. That will clean any crud that the needle maybe hanging up on. I prefer the old solid needle not the new vitron tipped ones, so that's my 2 cents worth.

I only do JD 2 cyl. carbs but my advise is to also junk the so called "viton" tip and go all steel. You will notice also that the all steel ones will have a lot steeper taper to them for better centering and will wash off better if crud gets in. Some of them so called "viton" tips don't have but a 30 deg. angle to them. Like a house with a 3 in 12 pitch as apposed to one with a 7 in 12 pitch. And who's to say just what junk rubber the chinese really use on those "viton" tips? Should NEVER need a clip to pull it up/down,never! Clips just get in the way and get squee-jawwed and cause binding and non seating problems.

If you have an O'Reilly's auto parts store in your area they sell a walker brand kit that has what you need in it and cost is around $20. It will have the seat the needle and the clip so it will not stick and gaskets etc.

I've seen needle valves stick if the float has a small wear dimple where the valve makes contact. I've just ground the area flat again so it can't have a place to catch on as the float moves up-down.

StaBil will soften Viton type needles causing them to stick.

Yes, many tractor carburetors originally had clips that served to pull the needle valve open when the float dropped. Cheap carburetor kits have needles without the groove in which the clip is anchored rendering the clip worthless. Most of the clips have long since been lost. I keep any of them that I find for use in my carburetors.
