MF 1100 High Range Doesn't Work

Several years ago I bought a MF 1100. It runs great but won't go into high range. Every time I try to push the range lever up into high, it just won't go. It has a brand new clutch. I even have tried to shut the tractor off and then try to move the range lever forward but it still won't go. Tractor operates fine in low range. Would any of you guys have any idea what the problem might be? Thanks heaps.

Just a couple things to try........

First check and make sure this isn't excessive build up of dirt laying on top of transmission inside counsole limiting movement of linkage rods, remove accelerator pedal in middle to gain better access.......had this happen on a 1135 one time, dug all the dirt out and fixed the problem.

Secondly, if above info doesn't help you may have to adjust the hi-lo shifting rod which is behind gear shift lever inside counsole. Good luck

Xs 2 what MFrules mentioned. Had the same trouble with dad's 1100 once, found a lot of walnuts on the transmission top limiting lever travel. Dad was thinking major repair and was glad it was just a varmint problem.

The last year or two I have had more trouble with whatever they are, little pack rats or whatever, stockpiling piles of acorns everywhere, inside mowers, on top of tractor batteries, inside housings, behind screens.

Hi It could be that the pins and holes are getting worn in the rods lever and selector arm and not moving the selector enough. Had problems here with an 1135 shifters. tried adjusting it ,it seemed good at the time. then randomly it would stick between gears and jam the transmission between 2 gears the twice it did it i felt it wasn't right before i got the clutch up so stopped it quick. in the end I just fitted new pins as a quick fix and re set the rods and it worked fine after that. Maybe check the pins and holes if you don't find anything else wrong like others have said. or it could be an internal problem. it's been a few years since i sold mine I just had another thought is the lever hitting the dash before it goes in Mine did that while I was goofing with the rod adjustment once.
Regards Robert

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. I'm going to try them today. And a Happy and prosperous new year to all of you too.

You guys were right. I found that little depression on top of the transmission where the linkage depresses to be full of dirt and related trash. As soon as I cleaned it out I was able to get full travel out of the range selector lever and lock it into high range. Thanks a million.
