Super 35 combine

Never drove a combine, this 35 is buried in a shed with other equipment. Before I get in there to pull it out, I"d like to know a little more about it. How many gears does it have, or is it just the salsbury drive. I can barely get to it, so when I dig it out I"m on my own. Man and wife both passed on. Thanks

Had one years ago, three speed with reverse, continental f140 flathead engine, older ones a brake on the trans, newer ones disc brake on each wheel. A nice little tiny combine!! Older ones were Massey Harris, newer ones were Massey Ferguson Super 35, you could even get a 2 row corn head for them.

Thanks for responding! If I may, could I ask if you remember what is the pattern on the "shifter" to get 1,2,3, and reverse? I found a parts book, and a cd on the engine, but I cannot find an owners manual. Other than M.F. and M.H. is there any others that share the same controls? Thanks, Bob in Wi.

Had a straight 35, the super was newer. Standard variable speed that is just lever operated, no hydrolick to it and 3 speed transmission. Were avaible in 7' & 8' models, ours was 8' but 7 would have been better. Also had the No. 20 corn head and the head was speed limiting factor, not seperator capacity in corn. Befor that had a Massey Clipper self propelled. Liked them both but both had been abused befor we got them.

I don't remember the shifter pattern, but I think it was marked somewhere on the controls. Elec. system was 6 volt, I think the carb was a fixed jet Zenith. The header had a safety valve in it so it would not gravity lower. it had to be powered down.

Thanks again Mike for your help. I just realized this morning after looking at the bullitin board at our restaurant that our Badger Steam & Gas Show is featuring the Massey Collectors Association, Massey Expo of North America. So I should be able to find out more August 17-19.

Shifter pattern is up forward - reverse, up back - first, down forward - second, down back - third. I think that is what I did last week cutting wheat. The 35 is a fun little machine to operate!!

I fired the combine yesterday. I was lucky, tank was dry, carb was dry, which I didn't think the old owner believed in draining the fuel system for storage. Stole the battery out of my 960, and found no spark. hasseled the points till they made contact, and I had spark. Used spray and pray in the intake, and after 4 prime and crank sessions , the L 140 stayed running. Everything worked except getting the head to operate. After couple of tries which killed the engine at idle, I got brave gave it some RPM and broke it free. Just a dripping (small stream) at the hydraulic reservior which has to be fixed. Still blocked by a lot of flat tire equipment which I have to move before pulling the 35 out in the sun.

Hi Blue,

I had my 35 at the Massey Days Reunion in Wellington KS a couple weeks ago. It was the only one standing at the end of the day!! I plan to be at Baraboo so look me up. Be glad to visit about the 35!! I have a NOS drive belt if you need it (the only flat belt on the combine!)

Gary, If I can get it out of the shed where the owner had it, I can clean it up and see where the tank is leaking oil. Not sure if it would make it to the show which is a nice 20 mile drive on back roads. I do not have any idea how fast it would run down the road without hurting it. Won't fit on my trailer, but have friends with above the wheel goosenecks. See you at the show, Bob

There is one sitting behind my business that belongs to the neighboring business owner. I believe he wants to sell it. Doesn't look real bad.

I am looking for one, can you get me info for the owner so I could contact him? Thank you, LeRoy
