massey 285 fuel in oil

Recently purchased a Massey 285 it supposedly had 500 hrs on a rebuild your have only put about 10 hrs on it since I got it home. This morning I started it it was 8 degrees and I let it warm up for about 45 mns when it started to push fuel thinned oil out of the dipstick. Injectors or injector pump? Any help would be appreciated

Check the supply pump on the block first. Next will be the injection pump drive seal, just repaired a 165 pump for the same problem. Anytime there's an injection pump leak it's best to reseal the complete pump.

Our 285 only makes oil when it's cold out, figure it's the injectors. Doesn't put it in that quick, but in 5 hours it'll be a couple quarts high. on the spreader. I told dad to let it sit this winter until I can get around to looking at it. I figure this one is injectors because the pump would dump it in all the time, not just when it's cold out.

I doubt it's the injectors, but the injection pump hub seals. They are not as pliable with age when cold.. Most pumps I see have really hard brittle seals anymore.

I seem to remember many moons ago we had one of our Masseys do that, it turned out to be due to a hole in the diaphragm of the lift pump.

We replaced the lift pump a couple times, never made a difference. About what did it cost to rebuild the pump?

I had that happen twice, once with a 165 and once with a 175...rebuilt injector pump on the 165, replaced the injector pump on the 175...problem solved. Note, the new injector pump for the 175 was cheaper than having the 165 pump rebuilt
